Reborn with Fire

Chapter 1

"Fella, Minnie's too plain for gold jewelry. Can't you let Hans try it on?"

Upon hearing Snow Sandy's voice, a chill ran down my spine, and I quickly checked my daughter's eyes.

Thankfully, her eyes were unharmed. Could it be that I was truly reborn?

I held my daughter tightly in my arms. While I kept a calm facade, my heart was in turmoil.

Snow Sandy, seeing that I was ignoring her, rolled her eyes in frustration.

"Fella, I'm talking to you! Hans is your godson. Are you really going to be so petty?"

I glanced at Hans Wind, who was already wearing the gold necklace around his neck, and replied flatly, "He's already wearing it. What am I supposed to say?"

Snow Sandy pursed her lips.

"Girls are a waste of money. Honestly, you didn't need to buy all this gold for Minnie. In the end, it'll just go to someone else."

"Why not give it all to Hans? When you're older, he can take care of you."

With that, she began putting all the gold jewelry I had bought for Minnie onto her son, even bending a few of them out of shape.

I nearly kicked this pair of mother and son off the balcony.

But I knew I couldn't.

If I did that, not only would I face legal consequences, but even my husband, William Smith, wouldn't let me off the hook.

In my previous life, when my daughter's eye was ruined by Hans Wind's prank, it was my husband who stopped me from calling the police.

But now, with our roles reversed, I couldn't help but wonder—would he stand by my daughter and me without hesitation?

No matter what, this time, I would protect my daughter.

Hans Wind and Minnie attended the same elementary school.

As the transition to middle school approached, Minnie's homeroom teacher suddenly contacted me about a study abroad opportunity.

The return would guarantee a spot at Harvard Secondary School.

However, there was only one spot available, and considering Minnie's exceptional performance, the school had decided to offer the opportunity to her.

But my mother-in-law took matters into her own hands and secretly helped Minnie decline.

Furious, I confronted her.

To my surprise, she started scolding me first.

"Minnie's just a girl. Looking pretty and dressing up is enough for her. She doesn't need to go abroad. Anyway, she'll just get married later."

"Instead of wasting energy on her, you should have another child while you're young. Having a son will solidify your position."

I tried to explain calmly.

"Mom, how can this be wasting energy? Minnie is so talented, and as her parents, we should support her, not hold her back."

"And relying on children to hold a marriage together won't last…"

Before I could finish, my mother-in-law interrupted.

"Fella, you're just too strong-willed."

"My son is so capable. You need to be aware of the competition. What if another woman takes advantage of him? I'm just looking out for you."

In my previous life, due to my mother-in-law's interference, Minnie never got the chance to study abroad.

Even after the accident with her eye, I followed my mother-in-law's suggestion and recommended Hans Wind to the school.

It wasn't until I overheard Snow Sandy bragging about how clever she was in securing the study abroad opportunity for her son, that I finally realized—I had been nothing more than a pawn in her game.

As I swallowed the sleeping pills, I thought to myself:

If that accident had never happened, if Minnie hadn't given up on going abroad, would the outcome have been different?

This time, I would take back everything they had stolen from me.

I held Minnie tightly in my arms, struggling to calm down.

Meanwhile, Snow Sandy was still excitedly fiddling with the gold jewelry on Hans Wind.

If you didn't know any better, you'd think it was Hans Wind's birthday, not Minnie's.

At that moment, Snow Sandy glanced at her phone and urged me, "William's waiting for us downstairs to celebrate Minnie's birthday."

I frowned.

"But the gold necklace you put on Hans is for Minnie. What is she going to wear when we go downstairs?"

Snow Sandy gave a mock sneer.

"Oh please, Minnie looks too plain. Wearing gold would just make her look more tacky. It's better if she doesn't wear any."

"Unlike Hans, he's naturally stylish. This gold necklace is made for him."

Hans Wind chimed in, "Yeah, godmother, consider this necklace an early New Year's gift from you to me."

I was seething with anger, but Snow Sandy pulled me downstairs.

As soon as Minnie reached the bottom of the stairs, William Smith, singing Happy Birthday, wheeled over a beautifully designed cake.

"Happy birthday to my little princess!"

Seeing the cake she had been eagerly waiting for, Minnie was thrilled. She rushed to kiss William on the cheek.

William hugged Minnie, then leaned in to whisper in my ear.

"Darling, I've prepared a gift for you too. It's black~"

In my previous life, hearing this, I immediately blushed and scolded William for being so inappropriate.

Lost in happiness, I didn't notice that Snow Sandy had already turned sour, even giving Hans Wind a meaningful look.

When it came time to blow out the candles, Minnie stood in front of the cake, closed her eyes, and prepared to make a wish.

Chapter 2

Just then, Hans Wind suddenly shoved her head into the birthday cake.

Minnie screamed, and the white cream on her face was tinged with blood.

But William Smith, laughing at his little flower cat of a daughter, didn't notice.

When I saw that my daughter's right eye had been pierced by the plastic support in the cake, my heart nearly broke.

Snow Sandy, however, grabbed Hans Wind and hid behind William, saying,

"Hans just wanted to play a little joke on Minnie. Didn't expect her to be so slow. Fella, you won't blame Hans for this, will you?"

I couldn't be bothered with her. I quickly rushed Minnie to the hospital.

But unfortunately, my daughter's right eye couldn't be saved.

When I heard the news, it felt like the sky had fallen.

Snow Sandy, upon hearing the news, immediately pretended to slap Hans Wind a few times, even threatening to poke out his eye to apologize to Minnie.

William Smith quickly stopped me, even gently trying to comfort me.

But did he forget that Minnie was the real victim?

The news reached my mother-in-law, who also teared up upon hearing it.

"Minnie really suffers too much, it's all Hans's fault, causing trouble without knowing the limits. I'll have him apologize to Minnie right away!"

I snorted coldly, my voice sharp.

"No need for an apology. Just let the police handle it!"

As soon as I finished speaking, William Smith's face turned red with anger.

"Fella, Hans is your godson!"

"I know Minnie's hurt, and it breaks my heart, but you can't take it out on him. He didn't do it on purpose!"

My mother-in-law chimed in.

"Exactly, who calls the cops on their own godson? What if this gets out? Where will the Smith family put their face?"

I looked at Minnie, my heart aching with tears about to fall. I was about to say something when William Smith suddenly lost patience.

"Anyway, Minnie's blind in one eye. Instead of dwelling on this, why don't we just have another child?"

"Hans is still so young. If you report this, you'll ruin his whole life!"

My whole body trembled with anger.

I didn't understand why, in William Smith's eyes, being a godfather seemed more important than being a real father.

In my past life, I was manipulated by him and chose to forgive Hans Wind.

In the end, Minnie became mentally unstable and attempted suicide.

I was devastated, but William Smith was too busy celebrating Hans Wind's birthday to even visit Minnie in the hospital for her last moments.

This time, I would never let such a tragedy happen to Minnie again.

The high-end birthday cake William Smith had prepared was placed before us, and I smiled, saying, "Next month is Hans's birthday, why don't you let him and Minnie make wishes together?"

"I've also prepared a birthday gift in advance. After we finish the cake, I'll give it to him."

Snow Sandy glanced at me with a trace of surprise.

She immediately pushed Hans Wind into the center, and then squeezed herself into William Smith's arms.

If you didn't know better, you'd think they were the real family of three.

When Hans Wind closed his eyes to make a wish, I quietly moved forward and, with lightning speed, shoved his head directly into the cake.

Hans Wind wasn't prepared, and the cake smeared all over his face, his expression full of shock.

Whereas last time, William Smith had laughed at Minnie's mischief, this time, he didn't laugh at all.

Snow Sandy screamed in panic and rushed to check Hans Wind's face.

Seeing there was no serious injury, she let out a sigh of relief, then immediately pointed at me, shouting, "Fella Frost, are you out of your mind? There are plastic supports in this cake. What if one of them had pierced his face? He could have been disfigured!"

Knowing where the supports were, I had made sure to avoid them when I acted.

But the way they reacted showed they knew exactly how dangerous it was.

In my past life, they had done it on purpose.

With that thought, I gave a slight smile and feigned concern.

"Hans, I'm sorry, I just wanted to play a little joke. You're not really going to be mad, are you? It was just a little fun, right?"

Snow Sandy immediately grabbed Hans Wind and pulled him behind her.

"Fella Frost, I know you did that on purpose!"

"We came here with good intentions, trying to celebrate Minnie's birthday, and you've gone and attacked my son. How could you be so vicious!"

When William Smith turned to get a towel, I immediately changed my attitude.

"What if I did it on purpose? It's just some cake on his face. Why make such a big deal out of it?"

Snow Sandy hadn't expected me to admit it, and her face turned red with anger.

She then gave Hans Wind a look.

Hans Wind quickly understood, and began crying loudly.

William Smith rushed over, alarmed.

"Hans, what's wrong?"

Hans Wind immediately pointed at me, shouting.

"Godfather, godmother did this on purpose! She scared me when you weren't looking. I'm really scared!"

At that moment, the emergency staff arrived to check Hans Wind over.

The check confirmed that he hadn't been injured.

But Snow Sandy wasn't satisfied.

"Fella Frost attacking someone is a fact! Just because my son was lucky and wasn't hurt doesn't mean she's off the hook. What's the difference between this and attempted murder?"

"I think she's just jealous because I have a son!"

I knew Snow Sandy was trying to force William Smith to speak on her behalf.

Chapter 3

I was also curious to see how this version of William Smith would handle the situation.

But to my surprise, he pulled me aside and said in a low voice.

"Fella, why don't you apologize to Hans? After all, this was your fault."

"You're an adult. You can't be going after a kid like this."

Looking at William Smith, who spoke so sanctimoniously, I suddenly felt a bitter laugh rise in my chest.

In my past life, Minnie lost her eye because of Hans Wind, and William Smith had taken the side of Snow Sandy and her son.

Now, Hans Wind hadn't even been hurt, and William Smith was still defending them.

It seemed no matter what, he would always side with them.

I took a deep breath and said coldly, "I'll apologize, but you have to promise me one thing."

When William Smith heard I was willing to back down, he quickly said, "Anything, Fella. I knew you'd understand. You're always so thoughtful!"

I rolled my eyes inwardly. If this is what being a good wife meant, I wanted no part of it!

I walked over to Hans Wind and said, "Today, I was wrong. I shouldn't have joked with you like that."

Snow Sandy snorted and pulled out a bottle of peanut drink.

"Mother's debt is to be repaid by the daughter. If you want Hans to forgive you, you'll have to make Minnie drink this bottle of drink!"

Minnie shuddered and shrank into my arms.

I looked up at William Smith, but he deliberately avoided my gaze.

At that moment, my heart felt cold.

He and Snow Sandy both knew that Minnie was allergic to peanuts.

If she drank this, she would end up in the hospital needing emergency care.

Just as I was about to refuse, William Smith suddenly opened the bottle and poured the entire contents over Minnie's head.

He then looked at Hans Wind with an apologetic expression and said, "Hans, Minnie's allergic to peanuts. This is my way of apologizing to you. Can you forgive her?"

Hans Wind looked at Minnie, drenched and shivering like a drowned chicken, and laughed with a snort.

"Okay, fine. I'll let it go, but only because of godfather."

I felt my heart sink as I quickly grabbed tissues to wipe Minnie's face, then rushed her to the hospital.

Minnie is my bottom line. William Smith and Snow Sandy's time is up!

Back from the hospital, it was already ten o'clock at night.

After coaxing Minnie to sleep, William Smith acted as if nothing had happened and tried to get closer to me.

I pushed him away with disgust.

"William Smith, do you remember what you promised me this afternoon?"

William smirked immediately, "Of course I remember. Whatever you want, I'll give it to you."

Saying that, he leaned in closer.

I slapped him hard, sending him stumbling to the side.

"William Smith, let's get a divorce."

His smile froze immediately.

"Why? Just because of this small incident this afternoon?"

"Fella, when did you become so petty? You know Snow Sandy's a widow with a child, and it's not easy for her."

I had planned to divorce peacefully and leave some dignity for both of us. But hearing him say that, I was completely enraged. I grabbed him and dragged him to Minnie's bed, shouting,

"Petty? Open your eyes and look clearly—Minnie almost ended up in ICU today because of you!"

"And Snow Sandy's hardship, is it something I caused?"

"Someone like you, you're not even fit to be a father!"

I threw the divorce papers in his face.

Seeing the contents of the agreement, William's expression turned dark.

"I didn't do anything wrong! Why should I leave with nothing?"

I scoffed,

"When we got married, the house and car were all provided by my parents. If I don't leave with nothing, do you want a share of my premarital property?"

"I didn't realize you could be this thick-skinned."

William was stunned. Just as he was about to say something else, Minnie's homeroom teacher called.

Just like in the previous life, she brought up the idea of Minnie studying abroad.

William heard it too.

He immediately began to manipulate me again,

"Fella, I was wrong earlier. I was too hasty. I don't think we should divorce over such a trivial matter."

"As for studying abroad, forget it. Minnie's a girl; she doesn't need that kind of hassle. As long as she dresses up beautifully and lives like a carefree princess, that's enough."

Haha, so he thinks Snow Sandy should get the opportunity instead of Minnie?

Dream on!

Before he could continue, I cut him off,

"Divorce and Minnie gives up studying abroad."

"Don't divorce, and Minnie goes abroad. You pick."
