My Mute Ex Told Me the Cruelest Lie
Chapter 1

I was fed up with my ex-husband’s non-stop talking. After divorce, I dated a mute.

He was sweet and gentle, absolutely perfect for me.

Till one day, I went to pick him up from his college. I had just entered the men's dorm when I overheard someone teasing.

"Ethan, what's it like pretending to be mute to hook up with your uncle's ex-wife?"

I instinctively stopped at the doorway.

After a moment, a deeper voice responded.

"Just so-so."

Through the crack in the door, I saw a young man sitting on a chair with his legs crossed.

His eyelids drooped slightly, giving him a bored, sophisticated look.

"When are you planning to break up with her? Doesn't it drive you crazy not talking every day?"

He scrolled through his phone with obvious impatience. "Ha! Never tried older women before. Consider it when I’m bored."

I remained silent, pretending I hadn't heard anything as I turned and walked back downstairs.

I sent him a message: "I'm here. Where are you?"

He replied quickly.

"Got it, coming down now!"

A few seconds later, a figure rushed out of the dormitory.

Ethan was still wearing that black hoodie.

But his contempted expression was gone, replaced with a sunny, enthusiastic face.

He came to my side with a grin and typed on his phone.

[Hey, have you been waiting long?]

"Not really."

He looked at me for a couple of seconds, blinked, then typed again.

[You seem upset. Are you annoyed from waiting?]

I glanced at the boy holding his phone, cautiously trying to please me.

I sighed, "No, just some work stuff."

[Oh.]

The boy lowered his eyes, looking disappointed.

This demeanor was completely different from what I'd just witnessed in the dorm.

It made me wonder if what I'd seen was just my imagination.

He sat obediently in the passenger seat, then suddenly seemed to remember something.

[Can you wait for me for a few minutes?]

I nodded, and he immediately opened the car door and ran out.

While waiting, I hesitated before finally clicking on my ex-husband Ryan Bennett's chat page.

"You mentioned you had a nephew before. What's his name?"

Soon, my long-estranged ex replied.

Ryan: "Ethan Pierce."

Ryan: "Why do you ask?"

I was about to reply when the car door suddenly opened.

I hurriedly put my phone in my pocket. Ethan had returned.

He tucked one hand casually in his pocket. After fastening his seatbelt, he suddenly pulled out a Ferrero Rocher chocolate.

Golden wrapped, classic hazelnut.

He handed it to me with a slight smile.

"For me?"

The boy nodded. [Don't be upset anymore, okay?]

Chapter 2

I was a scholarship student sponsored by Ryan.

I married him only because he needed a marriage.

He needed an obedient, compliant wife to appease his grandfather's pressure to get married.

And I was the easy choice.

During our time together, I rarely had the opportunity to learn about his family.

But I did have some impression of his nephew who always kept his distance.

A rebellious trust fund kid.

A young master who gave even Ryan headaches when he acted up.

And now this troublemaker was sitting beside me with an innocent face.

Acting like a perfect gentleman. I found it quite amusing.

The car stopped at a red light, and I looked at him.

"Kiss me."

The boy was startled, then his eyes gradually darkened.

Without needing a second invitation, he leaned over and gripped my chin.

He gave me a solid, hot kiss.

Suddenly, the car next to us honked twice.

Before I could react, the horn sounded again.

I turned to see that the car beside us had lowered its window.

Revealing a face I knew all too well.

Ryan

I tensed instinctively but then remembered he had no control over me anymore.

The man's expression was far from pleased, his tone mocking.

"So desperate to such an extent?"

I smiled sarcastically. "Young people have lots of energy. Sorry to offend your eyes, Mr. Bennett."

Ryan's face darkened as he looked past me at the passenger.

I tensed again, unconsciously moving to block his view.

"The light's green. I won't hold up traffic any longer."

With that, I rolled up the window first.

Looking back at Ethan, he was staring out the window, lost in thought.

I suddenly wondered what expression Ryan would have if he discovered the person kissing me was his nephew.

But this situation was too entertaining.

I really didn't want this to be over yet.

Chapter 3

As soon as we got home, Ethan rushed toward me eagerly.

He hugged me tightly and kissed my lips.

[I don't like him.]

"Don't like who?"

[Your ex-husband.]

"Oh."

I moved closer, brushing against his ear.

"Coincidentally, I don't like him either."

He picked me up with one arm and threw me onto the bed.

I yelped and wrapped my arms around his neck.

He silently quirked the corner of his mouth, his eyes flashing with satisfaction.

I suddenly remembered his roommate asking him earlier.

"What's it like hooking up with your uncle's ex-wife?"

He had said, "Just so-so."

But for me, it was different.

Hooking up with my ex-husband's nephew.

That feeling... it was fucking amazing!

Ryan used to be wild too.

But it was the wildness of someone in power.

All taking, with absolutely no pleasure for me.

But Ethan was different. I knew he was trying to please me.

This joy reached its peak after discovering his true identity.

Just as he was impatiently trying to get started, my doorbell rang.

[Ignore it.]

Soon, the doorbell became a phone ringtone.

"It must be something important."

I patted Ethan's head reassuringly.

I grabbed my phone with one hand.

"Open the door."

It was Ryan.

"I'm not home."

"I saw your car. Open up."

I paused, "Now's not a good time."

The person outside seemed to be lighting a cigarette. "With that guy?"

"We're divorced. It's none of your business."

"Then let's get remarried."

After he said this, he seemed shocked by his own words.

Neither of us spoke for a moment.

There was just a "buzz" of electrical current from the other end of the phone.

I spoke first, "You're drunk. Let your assistant take you home."

"Open the door first."

"Really not convenient."

"Heh, Olivia Reed, you're getting bolder and bolder."

He seemed to think of something and snickered.

"No, I forgot. Back then, kissing me when I was drunk, acting crazy and proposing to me... you've always been this bold."

The call ended.

I was still absorbed in Ryan's words.

I had indeed loved him back then.

The first time I met Ryan was right after I got into college.

I bravely went to his company, wanting to meet the benefactor who sponsored me.

Falling for him seemed like the natural progression.

I never imagined I would one day marry him.

After marriage, I lived in my own pink bubble.

Thinking my love alone could sustain our relationship.

Until the appearance of Jordan Taylor, who shattered my dream.

[Olivia?]

A hand came from behind me. I turned around.

Ethan was standing behind me.

I suddenly became very curious. If this person knew the real reason for my divorce from Ryan—because of another woman—what would he do?

Would he pretend to be mute and seduce Jordan too?

The mute trick was getting old; maybe he could pretend to be crippled next...

Thinking this way, I couldn't help but laugh.

I patted Ethan's cheek, "I'm not in the mood right now. Another time."

With that, I got up and put on my robe.

I didn't notice Ethan's increasingly complex expression.
