Chapter 1
Everyone in the legal industry of the capital knew one thing that top lawyer Kyle Smith adored his wife above all else.
To mark his claim, he tattooed my name on his collarbone.
Even though his work often took him across multiple countries, he’d always carve out time to return and be with me.
But today, outside my office, I overheard his employees joking among themselves.
“Boss just got back a few days ago, and now he’s off again, accompanying Linda Jackson overseas for some indulgence.”
“What do you know? Linda starving for attention, and it’s up to our boss to satisfy her.”
“You’re not wrong there. Linda really is top-tier—her figure... wow.”
“Of course. Last time, in the office, they used up six boxes of... you know.”
I fell silent, glancing at the message Kyle had sent me this morning.
“I’m handling a divorce case overseas this time, darling. Stay home and wait for me.”
What he didn’t know was, this time, the client was me.
I left without a word and took a taxi home.
On the wall was a wedding photo of Kyle and me. In the picture, he gazed at me with deep affection.
Beside me was a video sent by Linda.
In the video...
Linda’s hands were tied to the headboard with a tie, and her sexy figure-hugging skirt had been pushed up to her waist.
The usually cold and composed Kyle was now red-eyed, his breathing ragged, as he took the woman beneath him to the heights of pleasure.
I remained silent for a moment, then turned off the screen.
The floor-to-ceiling window reflected my image.
My makeup was ruined from tears, eyeliner smudged across my face, looking a mess.
I trembled as I typed a message to Kyle using a burner account.
“My husband is in a hotel room with his mistress. What should I do?”
An hour passed before he replied.
“Save the proof of your husband’s infidelity, and send it to me.”
“Okay, I’ll organize it and send it to you in a few days.”
I used the burner account to officially hire Kyle.
I asked him to help me win this divorce case.
Darling, I hope when you receive the evidence, you’ll be satisfied.
I couldn’t sleep that night.
The next morning, just as the sun was rising, I heard the rumble of an engine and the screech of tires from below.
Kyle carefully made his way upstairs and opened the bedroom door, but froze when he saw my back.
“Baby, why are you up so early?”
I told him the truth.
“I couldn’t sleep.”
“What happened?”
Kyle’s eyes were filled with worry and panic. He quickly crossed the room and pulled me into his arms.
“Baby, is it because I haven’t been spending enough time with you these past few days? Are you upset?”
I nodded in agreement.
Kyle was filled with guilt, cupping my face in his hands and gently soothing me.
“It’s all my fault, I’ll cancel all my work today and stay with you. I’m not going anywhere.”
I looked up at him, staring at his lips as I slowly leaned in.
Kyle’s eyes showed desire, and just as he leaned down to kiss me, I turned my face away, reaching up to wipe the hickey on his neck.
“Kyle, you’re dirty.”
For a moment, his breath hitched.
As someone accustomed to power and manipulation, he had long cultivated the ability to stay calm under pressure.
He smiled and patted my head.
“I was in a hurry to come back and be with you. I didn’t notice. I’ll go shower right now.”
I didn’t respond and went to freshen up.
Kyle thought he had hidden everything perfectly, not realizing he had already started sweating nervously.
In the bathroom, the sound of water filled the air.
Kyle clenched his phone and muttered in a low voice.
“I told you not to contact me recently. If my wife finds out, I won’t let you off the hook.”
Linda’s voice was filled with sorrow as she cried softly.
“But I bought you that lace dress you love. Don’t you want to see it?”
Kyle didn’t answer, hanging up the phone.
His breath grew heavier, and he turned the cold water on full blast.
After lunch, Kyle was all excited to take me to the fair.
The lively hustle and bustle of the fair helped ease the discomfort in my heart.
Kyle was holding various snacks, coaxing me to eat more.
We walked over to a wishing wall, where countless wish plaques hung, covering it like a thick forest.
Kyle squeezed my hand gently.
“Baby, want to hang one?”
I was about to shake my head and refuse when his phone suddenly rang.
It was Linda’s exclusive ringtone.
He hurriedly hung up, but the calls kept coming in, one after another.
I looked at him calmly. “Answer it.”
Kyle answered the call, annoyance clear on his face. “Didn’t I tell you? I’m spending the day with my wife. Stop calling me!”
I couldn’t hear what was being said on the other end, but Kyle’s breath suddenly became heavier, and his eyes darkened with desire.
He turned to look at me, his face full of guilt. “Sorry, baby, there’s a tricky case I need to handle.”
I nodded, suppressing the nausea churning inside me.
“Work is important.”
I took a few deep breaths, clenching my hands into fists.
At the highest point of the wishing wall hung our plaque—mine and Kyle’s.
I took it down and traced my fingers over the faded characters.
“In the late years, on the mountain road, may we walk together, growing old side by side—Olivia Brown and Kyle”
Back then, Kyle looked at me with deep affection, and his words were sincere.
“May we walk together through life, hand in hand, until our hair turns white, never leaving each other, always bound in life and death.”
I had once been lost in those eternal promises, unable to escape.
Now, rusted vows and decaying feelings—I’d had enough.
Expressionless, I threw the plaque into the trash and turned to leave.
Linda sent a message.
“He said he was thirsty and insisted I help him get water, but it made me feel so itchy.”
Chapter 2
“Sis, I spilled red wine on myself and he got drunk... you won’t be mad, will you?”
The video showed Kyle greedily sucking the wine from Linda’s body.
From top to bottom, until his hands ventured toward forbidden places.
I didn’t reply, just saved the evidence.
When he came back, I was curled up on the sofa reading, completely absorbed in the book.
Kyle approached from behind, planting a kiss on my neck.
It used to be my favorite intimate gesture, but now it only reminded me of how he had been licking Linda’s body earlier.
A wave of disgust made me tremble, and I gagged audibly.
Kyle looked at me in a panic, but his face suddenly brightened.
“Baby, what’s wrong? Could it be...?”
I interrupted him, “It’s nothing.”
Kyle lowered his head in guilt. “It’s all my fault for being busy today and not spending enough time with you. I’ll make it up to you tomorrow.”
He brought in a bag full of gifts—bags and jewelry that I liked.
Every time he did something wrong, he tried to make up for it this way.
I smiled silently, casually tossing the gifts into a corner.
Kyle prepared honey water and brought it to me, then went back to the kitchen to cut some fruit.
I was about to continue reading when the doorbell rang.
I opened the door, and a person wrapped up warmly stood there, holding a gift box.
It was Linda.
“Olivia, this is a gift the boss asked me to prepare for you. He left it at my place and forgot to take it.”
Linda handed me the box.
Inside, I found a silk scarf—the same one Kyle had used to tie Linda’s hands earlier that day.
Kyle heard the noise and came out of the kitchen.
The moment he saw Linda, his expression changed drastically.
He strode forward, blocking the space between me and Linda. “What are you doing here?”
Linda opened her coat, revealing the lace trim on her thigh.
“Boss, I came to deliver a gift to you.”
Kyle’s eyes shifted to the gift box, and his gaze darted between me and it. When he saw that I didn’t react negatively, he let out a silent sigh of relief.
He nudged Linda’s arm.
“Just leave the gift and go.”
Linda didn’t linger. She shot me a provocative glance and left without a word.
But I knew this wouldn’t be the end of it.
Because Kyle couldn’t help but start undoing his shirt buttons, his Adam’s apple bobbing—a clear sign he was trying to suppress his desires.
I suppressed the disgust rising inside me and retreated to the room.
Not long after, Kyle followed me in, holding a cup of hot milk.
“Baby, drink some hot milk and go to bed early.”
I didn’t refuse and drank it all in front of him.
Once he left, I ran to the bathroom and forced myself to vomit the milk back out.
Kyle had drugged me...
About an hour later, the bed creaked under weight.
Kyle had brought Linda into the room.
Linda’s coquettish voice echoed in the room, the sound of tearing clothes filled the air.
“Kyle, you’re so bad, bullying me in front of your wife like this...”
“You’re just a little temptress, always pestering me.”
“Aren’t you afraid your wife will wake up?”
“I gave my Olivia some sleeping pills. She won’t wake up...”
I clutched the bedsheet, tears soaking my pillow.
They were shamelessly doing this right beside me.
At times, Linda’s hair brushed my face.
“My dear Kyle, you’re such a machine.”
Kyle lifted Linda, carrying her from the bed to the balcony.
For two whole hours, Linda was exhausted, still begging for mercy, but not released.
Her soft voice asked, “Kyle, is your wife better, or am I better?”
Kyle thrust deeply, shattering her words into fragments.
“What makes you think you can compare to my wife? You’re nothing compared to a single strand of her hair...”
“If my wife wasn’t afraid of pain, do you think I’d even touch you?”
Kyle had always been gentle with me, and I’d never seen him like this—wild and carefree.
Like a beast released from its cage, desperate to tear apart and devour its prey.
In the dark, I quietly took out my phone and recorded a video.
In the end, Kyle was holding scattered clothes in one hand while carrying a naked Linda out the door with the other.
I opened my eyes, letting the tears fall freely down my face.
This would be the last time I ever shed tears for Kyle.
When I woke up, Kyle was in the garden, trimming the flower branches.
The entire rose field was planted for me.
He never trusted anyone else with it, carefully tending to the roses himself.
He used to say, “Loving someone is like caring for flowers, Olivia, you are my rose.”
At that time, I really thought I was the happiest woman in the world.
But flowers wither, love fades, and nothing lasts forever.
I leaned against the door, quietly watching him.
Noticing my gaze, Kyle smiled, wiped his hands, and walked over to wrap his arms around my waist.
The distance between us was so close I could feel his breath on my skin.
Chapter 3
Kyle’s eyes were full of me, and he placed a kiss on my forehead—devout and gentle.
“Baby, you’re awake. I’ll make you some breakfast.”
Seeing him busy in the kitchen, I felt a moment of disconnection.
In the beginning, he didn’t know how to cook at all.
But I was a picky eater with a poor appetite.
To help me gain some weight, he learned several cookbooks and even got a nutritionist certification.
I thought back to the times when he would make me pancakes, his face covered in soot.
I couldn’t help but smile softly.
Kyle glanced at me, his eyes full of love.
I turned away, my phone vibrating.
I picked up the call, and a crisp, pleasant male voice came through.
“Olivia, everything’s ready on our side. When are you coming over? We’re all waiting for you.”
I thought for a moment.
“Tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? What’s tomorrow?”
Kyle walked out of the kitchen, looking puzzled.
I ended the call, a faint smile on my lips.
“Tomorrow, I have a surprise for you.”
Kyle’s eyes sparkled, and he smiled like a child.
“Really? My wife is just too good to me.”
He leaned in to kiss me, but I subtly dodged him. “Go cook, stop being so cheeky.”
After dinner, Kyle washed the dishes and then turned to me with a proposal.
“Baby, there’s a case at the company today. I have to go.”
I didn’t say anything but stepped forward to adjust his tie.
“Go ahead.”
Kyle seemed reluctant, glancing back at me repeatedly.
I forced a smile.
Once the door clicked shut, the smile faded instantly.
I knew he wouldn’t be coming back today, because it was the anniversary of his relationship with Linda.
Yesterday, the gift he brought me was missing a few pieces.
I returned to the room and began packing my things.
Dragging my suitcase, I placed a divorce agreement on the living room sofa.
I used to think I’d make a huge scene, smashing the house to pieces and making everyone suffer.
But now, I realized I didn’t care.
I just wanted to leave quietly, without saying a word or causing any unnecessary conflict.
At the airport, my phone rang.
Linda sent me a picture of the necklace Kyle had given her.
“Brother said, as long as I like it, all the best things in the world will be delivered to me.”
I switched to my alternate account and opened the chat with Kyle.
“Lawyer Smith, what should I do if the mistress brags to me about my husband’s gifts?”
“I’ll help you recover all the joint marital assets.”
I sent him all the evidence of his affair and the screenshots of Linda’s provocation.
“Lawyer Smith, I’m counting on you for the divorce.”
Once the documents were received, I immediately blocked him.
I then pulled out the SIM card and threw it away.
As the plane took off, my heart finally settled.
The plane landed.
A heavy rain had fallen over London.
The fresh, clean scent seemed to wash away all the dust and grime.
I pushed my suitcase, standing in the corridor, waiting for the rain to stop.
Suddenly, the rain in front of me disappeared, and a pair of shining black leather shoes stood in my path.
“Olivia, long time no see.”
I looked up, meeting his gaze.
“Martin, long time no see.”
Martin smiled lightly and took my suitcase.
“Let’s go, everyone’s waiting for you.”
In the private room of the restaurant, the room was filled with people.
These were my future colleagues, and through Martin’s introduction, we were getting to know each other.
After a while, we became familiar, laughing and talking more openly.
One of my colleagues patted Martin’s shoulder and joked.
“Martin, you’ve been single for so many years. It’s not because of Miss Brown, right?”
After a round of teasing, Martin’s ears turned red.
His gaze toward me was intense, making me feel a little uneasy.
Martin lowered his head, stood up.
“Olivia, would you like to take a walk?”
I didn’t refuse.
The alcohol had gotten to my head a little, and I needed some fresh air.
Martin was my senior, a year above me.
When I first entered school, I participated in the New Ideas Cup debate competition, and Martin was the one who led our team.
He was talented and accomplished, having received an offer from a law firm even before graduation.
Afterward, he started his own firm, helping marginalized groups fight legal battles, quickly earning a reputation for himself.
He had once invited me to join his team, but at that time, I had already fallen for Kyle, devoting all my attention to him.
Before Martin left for overseas, he urgently asked me to meet him.
“I’m leaving tomorrow. Will you come to see me off?”
I shook my head, offering a polite smile.
Martin paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and gathered the courage to speak.
“Then at least, as friends, can you give me something to remember you by?”
I searched through my things for a while, then took off a pearl from my hairpin and handed it to him.
“Wish you all the best in the future, may everything go smoothly.”
My thoughts drifted back to the present.
